Color Club | Angel Kiss

It's been SO long since I've done a post on nail polish! If you're a long time follower, you'll know that a couple years back, nail polish was the sole subject on Glazed Over! I'm still a chronic nail polisher, I just haven't made it a point to post much about it lately. Until this week... when I put on a beauty of a polish that was so pretty I had to share.

So what's really weird is that Color Club's website says that "Angel's Kiss" (my bottle says Angel Kiss) is a green holographic color.... hmmm... mine is most certainly blue. I don't know if I bought some sort of hijacked version, but this is a pretty ocean blue. This is not a new polish by any means, in fact, it's super old, but I had it sitting in my untried stash for ages and just finally gave it a go. 

Angel Kiss has a stunning holographic finish that looks gorgeous in the sunlight. It was hard to capture, but you can see the holographic rainbow effect especially on the middle finger above. Man, I absolutely love holographic polishes.

I used two coats of Angel Kiss and topped it off with Essie's No Chips Ahead top coat, and I was surprised by the lasting power the top coat gave me! 4 days in and I had minimal chipping on a couple of my nail tips. If you were to try this polish with Seche Vite as your top coat, I can guarantee it'd be chipped off in 2 days flat.

Julep - Dendrie

I've got a thing for grey nails. As much as I like to switch my nail color up on the regular, I think I'd be perfectly content if my nails were grey for life. Grey is chic and classy and it looks good on pretty much anyone. My nails were grey the day my husband proposed to me... maybe that has something to do with my love for the color. Whatever it is - it's a constant for me and Julep's Dendrie just made my list as one of the best grey polishes. 

Julep's Dendrie is described as a "dove grey creme". It is, in fact, a true creme polish that is a very light grey - it almost leans lavender but I didn't really notice that until I took thse photos.  I got really good wear out of this polish. It lasted a solid 4-5 days, with minimal chipping and nail wear. This is true to most every Julep polish I've tried... they just make solid polishes. Period!

In these photos I'm wearing 2 coats of Dendrie, followed by Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat.

Zoya - Toni

I am all about the classic fall shades this season. And there's really no better way to describe Zoya's Toni than a classic fall plum purple. This is an older shade, despite being new to me, as it was part of the fall 2012 Designer Collection. 

Zoya's Toni is an intense burgundy plum cream polish, ranking 5 on Zoya's intensity rating (on a 1-5 scale, 5 being the most intense). It is completely opaque with two coats, which I am wearing here. In most light it almost looks like a brick red, but in direct sunlight is very obviously a plum purple. If it looks a little bubbly, that is due to the top coat I used - Sally Hansen's Insta Dri top coat. This top coat used to be my favorite but I realized it is the culprit for all my polishes bubbling! Grr! 

I have gotten 4 days of wear out of this polish with very minimal chipping. That is the power of Zoya! I absolutely love the beautiful purple nail polish and would highly recommend it to those of you who love classic autumnal nails!

Orly - Just Peachy | Review + Swatches

When browsing through my pile of untried nail polish last week, I happened upon this polish by Orly called Just Peachy. I can't for the life of me remember where or when I picked it up, but the gorgeous peachy gold drew me in and I was so pleasantly surprised with this polish. Take a peek at why....

It's textured!!!! I had no idea until it dried, but this beauty packs a gorgeous textured punch! Seriously, can you go wrong with this?! It has a peach base and gold glitter and dries to gritty texture. Like I said.... pleasant surprise!

I applied two coats of Just Peachy and opted to skip a top coat to keep things nice and gritty. I did experience chipping at the tips of my nails within 2 days which is kind of unfortunate , but overall I am super in love with this polish. It is so gorgeous and I've not seen something quite like it before!

Ruby Wing - Kitten Heels

Check out this hot hot hot pink! You may recall seeing Kitten Heels by Ruby Wing on Glazed Over before, and that's because I got this in a Birchbox back in February. I absolutely love hot pink on my nails in the summer, so I pulled this beauty out and gave it a go.

As you can probably tell, I have acrylic nails on which I've cut and filed down, but you can still sort of see where they've grown out despite all my attempts at filing. On that note -anyone have any good tips for removal that won't completely tear away at my nails? 

Anyway, this is the first time I've ever used a polish by Ruby Wing and I have to say I'm impressed. Kitten Heels is a neon hot pink creme polish. I'm wearing two coats topped off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. Application was flawless - it applied easily without bubbles or inconsistency.

Kitten Heels is supposed to be a color shifting polish. Indoors it's supposed to be pink, and outside it's supposed to shift to an orangey-red. I don't know if it has something to do with the acrylic nails I painted over, but it has not changed for me at all. It's been pink the whole time...which I'm okay with because this color is such a beaut!

Overall, I really like this polish! I don't care that it doesn't shift colors - that's kind of gimmicky (IMHO) anyway. The flawless application and bright opaque color make this a true gem! Ruby Wing nail polish can be purchased here for $10 a bottle. Check it out!

Lime Crime - Crema de Limon

Earlier this year I redeemed some Ipsy points I had for this Lime Crime - Crema de Limon nail polish. I absolutely LOVE Lime Crime packaging and branding, it's the marketing professional in me (my day job). It's fun and vibrant, and the products are always edgy and colorful. This is the first time I've ever owned anything from the brand, and I was super excited to finally try something of theirs out. 

Crema de Limon is an opaque, pastel cream yellow. I'm wearing two coats, topped off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. I thought for sure this was a matte color, because of the packaging, but it isn't.

I wore this for Easter, and this is the perfect pale yellow for the holiday. It isn't streaky, it isn't patchy, it's just a nice, cream nail polish. Yellow can be a tough color to sport on the nails, but Crema de Limon would look good on anyone. This polish started chipping towards the end of the second day of wearing it.

Sally Hansen - Get Juiced

Could I have picked a better color to start out August with, or what? This gorgeous coral creme is absolutely perfect for celebrating summer. This is two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Get Juiced (400), topped off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat (one of my absolute favorite top coats.) The "Complete Salon Manicure" line claims to be a base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, color, top coat, chip-resistant and a gel finish all in 1 bottle - however, I think I'll take my chances and use a base and top coat to ensure even less chipping happens. 

One thing I especially love about this polish is the brush applicator. It has a rounded end which makes for very easy and precise application. Get Juiced went on very well, wasn't too sticky, and dried quickly. 

I'm fairly certain I have a couple other colors just like this (I'm especially reminded of Sally Hansen's Coral Reef) but I am a sucker for true coral colors like this one. I'm not sure there's a color that says "SUMMER!" quite as well as coral, don't you agree?

Mint Mani for Talia Joy

Whether you immerse yourself in the beauty world often or not, I'm sure you've heard of Talia Joy Castellano - the YouTube beauty personality who passed away this week after a 6 year battle with cancer. Talia was only 13 years young, but was an incredibly talented makeup artist. You've probably even seen her on the Ellen Show (if you haven't - click the link). 

To honor Talia, many in the beauty blogging/nail blogging world are sporting mint manis (her last instagram photo was a picture of her mint manicure) today in honor of her beautiful spirit, and I felt compelled to join right in. In honor of this bright, spirited young girl, I'm wearing two coats of Gem Green by Petites (a brand that sadly went out of business this year.)

Rest in peace, Talia Joy.

Quick Look: Essie - Jamaica Me Crazy

Here is a polish I've been lusting over for quite some time. It's nothing new or unseen, but it's just something I've had my eyes on. This is two coats of Essie's Jamaica Me Crazy. Don't you just love that name? This color is a beautiful, bright magenta filled with shimmer. I feel like the pictures I've seen make the shimmer look so much more pronounced than it actually looks on my own nails. It has a shimmery quality to it, but it doesn't take away from the color or catch the light intensely. I want to see how great this would look on my toes next.

Overall this is a great formula. It applied easily and smoothly, and didn't chip for 3 or 4 days. I couldn't ask for much more.

OPI - Big Hair... Big Nails

Today I've got an oldie but a goodie, and one I've never tried. It's called Big Hair...Big Nails (LOVE that name) and it's from OPI's Texas Collection which came out in spring of 2011. 

To me, this color screams SUMMER not spring, but that's really beside the point. This is a gorgeous pinkish orange jelly. The application was very smooth and easy to work with. As with most jellies, one coat would not be enough, unless you like the streaky nail look. I used three coats and as you can see, I still have some visible nail line (jellies like Big Hair...Big Nails finish kind of see through).

If you like this color, you might also like Kate by Zoya or Coraline which is also a Zoya polish. I think the plain old jelly fad has kind of passed (now on to jelly sandwiches - layering glitters with jellies) but I still think they're really fun, and this color is certainly really pretty. Zoya - Jancyn

Have I got a color for you - not for the faint of heart! This is a true, bold tangerine orange. Meet Zoya's Jancyn.

Orange is my favorite color, so I have no problem sporting this bright summer color with pride. For those of you who don't fancy a bright pop of orange, you might want to stay away. This is two coats of Jancyn, a cream finish polish. I've never had a bad word to say about Zoya, and this is no exception. Pure perfection; this is my ideal polish. 

Jancyn is a very opaque color. One coat got good coverage, but two coats is flawless. This orange is not quite neon, but it reminds me of bright hunting orange. It's loud and in your face. It doesn't have much place in a conservative office setting, if that's something you have to worry about. Luckily, no one said a peep about this color at my office! :) 

This color is the perfect way to ring in the summer weather we're finally getting here in MN! 

OPI - DS Reserve

This beauty is from my favorite OPI collection of all time, the Designer Series collection. This gorgeous pink is called DS Reserve, and it's been a long time favorite polish of mine. It's a very feminine looking pink that's jam packed with holographic glitter. This is a great color for those who work in more conservative offices, but it's much more fun than your standard work-appropriate pink. 

The formula is very smooth and thin and goes on easily. I used two coats and topped it off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, and unfortunately it has chipped on the nail line a little bit within only two days. 

While the Designer Series OPI polishes are a bit pricey compared to other OPIs, they're well worth it. They're absolutely gorgeous in the summer, and you'll be staring at your fingers any time the light hits them! I'd highly recommend them if you don't have any in your collection.

Quick Look: China Glaze - Creative Fantasy

This was one heck of a polish to photograph. My camera insisted on making it look blue, and even in this picture which is ALMOST the right color, it still looks bluer than in reality. Creative Fantasy is part of China Glaze's Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away collection which had a lot of fun colors, but of which I own only one.  This polish is described as neon purple, and has a jelly finish (which I love). I'm wearing three coats, and topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. Just one coat is horribly streaky, and two is almost right. Three is the magic number.

Maybelline Color Show - Pink Shock

Hello! Happy Thursday - we're almost to the long holiday weekend! Woohoo! 

Today I've got a quick look at my nails. I'm wearing a Maybelline Color Show polish in Pink Shock. 

This is a fun, bright neon pink that is sort of like a creme and partially like a jelly finish - in between. I'm wearing two coats topped off with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, and as you can tell there is still some visible nail line. This color is fun for summer, and really that's about it...nothing special. I've been wearing it for a couple days now and it has chipped fairly quickly which is disappointing, however these polishes retail for something like $2.99 so it's not shocking. I'm not sure how much use I'll get out of this polish in the future; I'm pretty sure I have one or two other polishes that are very similar.

Finger Paints - Blue Raspberry Taffy

Thursday, MAY 2ND we got 15.5" of snow in southern Minnesota. Hard, heavy, bringing-trees-down, knocking-power-out, cold, spring snow. One for the record books. So today, you can imagine I was in the mood for a spring nail color - something to make me forget that there is snow outside on May 4th. (Thankfully, the forecast shows mid-high 60s for the next week - buh-bye snow!)

This is two coats of Blue Raspberry Taffy by Finger Paints from the Spring 2012 Gumdrops & Lollipops collection (I got this on clearance recently, hence being a year late!). This is a lovely, creamy sky blue that is perfect for spring! There is not a whole lot that makes it unique (there are many colors just like this out there, in fact I'm sure I have a couple already in my own polish collection), but it is a pretty color, nonetheless. 

To jazz it up a little, I used an oldie but goodie, Last Friday Night by OPI from the Katy Perry collection (which I loved) on my middle and ring fingers. This is a super pretty blue glitter polish, filled with circular blue and silver round glitters, and a mix of micro glitter. I'm a big Katy Perry fan, so naturally I loved this collection, which I still pull out and incorporate in to my manicures now and then - which is saying something as I don't use many polishes over and over (total polish snob over here...).

Allure Beauty Box!

I am SO excited about what I'm going to show you today! I was lucky enough to snag an Allure Beauty Box when they went on sale a week ago. BCBGMAXAZRIA Bon Chic 

According to the description, "Bon Chic celebrates style and joie de vivre." (whatever that means) This is a nice scent, but it's nothing unique and doesn't really stand out to me. I'm sure I'll use up the bottle, but I'm pretty sure it won't make it in to my favorites. 

Burt's Bees Lip Gloss in Spring Splendor

I've got a weakness for lip products, so I'm super excited to try this out. This is one of the new Burt's Bees lip glosses, made with natural oils and nutrients. 

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Bit Faker

Despite being a polish junkie, I have never tried any Butter London polishes as the high price is a bit of a deterrent. It appears to be full of bronze sparkles, and I can't wait to try it.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Cetaphil is a gentle daily cleanser that removes makeup, and oils without overdrying or irritating sensitive skin. I've tried this cleanser before and it's not bad, but with combination acne-prone skin, I often need something a bit stronger to keep things under control. 

Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Damage & Color Repair Shampoo & Conditioner

This is a relatively new product line, and I haven't given it a try so I'm excited to give it a go. I've heard good things, and I can certainly use some damage repair on my hair! 

Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes

This is a product I'm excited to try! I already use Dickinson's witch hazel toner and have enjoyed it (aside from the smell, which is awful) so I expect these will be nice as well. Witch Hazel is great for the skin, especially for calming redness and blemishes. I'll probably throw these in my gym bag for a quick clean before or after my workouts!

GKHair Leave-In Spray

This leave in spray by GKHair protects hair while moisturizing and repairing split ends. I'm all about leave-in sprays, so I'm sure I'll use this down to the last drop.

Neutrogena MicroMist Sunless Tanning Spray

Due to the fact I'm basically blinding people with my pasty white skin, I am overjoyed to receive this in my beauty box! This MicroMist airbrush sunless tan is supposed to apply streak and missed-spot free. This fair-skinned redhead can definitely use a product like this!

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15

Buying moisturizer is one thing I hate doing. I absolutely need it, but hate shelling out $10-15 for it. Luckily, this moisturizer came included in my beauty box, sparing me a moisturizer shopping trip any time soon! This moisturizer is 100% alcohol, fragrance, dye and oil-free. 

Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm SPF 20

This is a product I will always skip over in the cosmetics aisle because the packaging is so boring. It's true to Neutrogena's brand, but there are a million other lip balms that will catch my eye before this one (even if this product rocks!) As you can see I already opened it up and tried it, and I have to say I like it! It has a sheer tint and goes on nicely - I just wish it wasn't shaped in an oval; it's kind of uncomfortable to put on because of the shape.

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser

The thing that catches my eye about this product, is it claims to clean sensitive skin and remove 99% of dirt without stripping skin of it's natural moisture and softness. I will definitely be giving this a try soon!

Nexxus Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Elixir

You might recall I got a sample of this product in my April birchbox, and to be honest, I haven't even tried it yet! I've heard nothing but good things about this product so far, so tomorrow I'm going to try this out and see just how great it is. 

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Hair Cream

This product claims to give hair a sexy tousled wavy look with a matte finish. I can see this being a great summer product to help control frizz and give the hair some volume.

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in No. 6 True Teal

I absolutely love Pixi products, so naturally, I'm thrilled to receive one of their long-wearing and waterproof eyeliners! This teal color will be bold and bright for summer.

Pureology Colour Stylist Supreme Control Maximum Hold Zero Dulling Hairspray

I don't go through hairspray quickly, but I'm looking forward to trying this product out - even if it's for color-treated hair (which I don't have). It claims to provide maximum hold with extra shine. 

Redken Control Addict 28 High-Control Hairpsray

I think I now have enough hairspray to last me a lifetime. This Redken hairspray claims to hold hairstyles for 24 hours! If this is true, I will certainly be impressed. It also says it won't flake, will dry fast, and is brushable without being stiff. 

Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Leave-In Treatment

According to the description, this is Redken's #1 selling treatment which reduces breakage and minimizes split-ends, AND serves as a heat protectant! This is a product I'd normally skip past for a cheaper alternative, so I'm looking forward to trying this out!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in #400 Get Juiced

We all know I love a good nail polish! I've tried out one or two from this line of Sally Hansen polishes, and didn't love or hate them, so this will be a good addition to my collection. I love a good coral color!

Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Dry & Go Drops

I have to admit, I'm pretty curious about this product. A good topcoat should pretty much eliminate the need for something like this, but perhaps they work well in tandem? Needless to say, I will definitely be giving this a shot.

Sally Hansen Zero Bumps Bikini Spray

This product helps keep skin soft and smooth between shaving and waxing by reducing bumps, irritation and in-grown hairs. Interesting that it's scented...

Sation Nail Lacquer in Love at First Byte

I have never tried the Sation brand of nail polish, although I believe I do have one sitting in my "untrieds" pile, and I know I've seen them at Wal*Mart. I wish this was a different color, as it's pretty darn close to the Sally Hansen polish, but I'll give it a shot!

Simple Kind to Eyes Eye Makeup Remover Pads

I love the Simple brand. I've tried a few of their products, and I'm currently using their cleansing pads (even on my eyes - oops!) so I can only assume that this will be another great product!

Suave Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil

Suave has stepped it up recently, eh? This product conditions without weighing hair down and smooths the cuticle for a long lasting shine. The conditioners in this product line weighed my hair down like no other (but smelled amazing!) but I'm willing to give this product a chance.

Tan Towel The Original Self-Tanning Towelette for Face & Body

I have to admit, I am REALLY skeptical of the product. How can a towelette have enough product on it to make your whole body evenly tan? I've also heard bad things about this (it's streaky, uneven, etc.) I would maybe attempt this on my legs while using another self tanner, but it will take some courage!

Tresemme Platinum Strength Strengthening Heat Protect Spray

I've used the Tresemme Heat Protect spray for years, only to change it up in the last couple months because I wasn't sure it was doing anything. However, I haven't tried this Platinum Strength version. I've been intrigued by this line of products, and even bought the shampoo and conditioner (which I have yet to try) - but I've heard good things and I can definitely get some use out of this product.
